How to Install New Golf Grips on Your Clubs.

Replacing your golf grips can be a do it yourself job, if you have the right equipment and the right technique.

Your golf grips could use replacing but you're not sure what the job entails? Not sure if it's a do-it-yourself type job? It can be simple if you have the right equipment and follow a few simple techniques.

A hook-bladed utility knife is key, since you don't want to cut into the graphite fibers on your club shafts. Use traditional grip solvent or low-odor mineral spirits with solvent-activated grip tape.

Never use paint thinner or lighter fluid as a solvent. They evaporate much too quickly and can even damage the grips.

Team JumboMax shows their stuff at Penguin Golf Academy Outing

Not only did Team JumboMax show their stuff at a JumboMax Demo Day on Saturday, they showed their stuff on the golf course Sunday by taking first place (2nd of 4 flights) in the Penguin Golf Academy Annual golf outing held September 20, 2009 at Marengo Ridge Golf and Country Club in Marengo, IL.

JumboMax President Mike Kachlik anchored the team consisting of Corey Rehus of Elgin, IL, Dale Rehus of Downers Grove, IL, and John Farkas of Palos Heights, IL. All Team JumboMax Players use JumboMax super-oversized grips on all their woods and irons, which are USGA conforming.

Also making a notable showing was Jason Bragg of Rockford IL, who won 1 of the 2 longest drive contests with a Nike Tour 460 driver matched with a JumboMax Grip. Jason installed JumboMax Grips on all his clubs after attending a demo day at Penguin Golf Academy in Loves Park, IL.

Jason was able to test his Nike Tour 460/Aldila stiff NV shaft (with standard golf grip) head to head with the identical club with a JumboMax Grip. (We just happened to have that very same demo driver with us that day!). After seeing the immediate benefit, Jason had Dennis at Penguin Golf install JumboMax grips on all his clubs. Way to go Jason!!!

Penguin Golf Academy is family-friendly golf practice facility located in Loves Park, IL at 1401 E. Riverside Blvd. Dennis has demo clubs equipped with JumboMax Grips for customers to take out on the range and try, so stop by and see what they're all about.

Thanks again to Dennis at Penguin Golf Academy and Marengo Ridge Golf & Country Club for putting on a great outing!

JumboMax Golf Grips — What are they and what do they do?

Inventor of the JumboMax golf grip Mike Kachlik offers a brief introduction, followed by some customer comments filmed at a recent JumboMax Grip Challenge held at Boulder Golf Range in Hoffman Estates, IL.

Do jumbo or oversized golf grips work on woods and irons or don't they?

Lately, I have been reading a lot of opinions regarding whether or not, large diameter "jumbo" or super-oversized golf grips, work on anything other than a putter, or if they're simply a half-baked idea.

I'd like to share my personal opinion on this particular subject. From my first-hand experience, both as a player using oversized grips myself, as well as testing and introducing large diameter grips to hundreds of golfers over the past several years, my short answer to the question is, “Yes, oversized golf grips can and do work very well for a great many golfers”.

I've read and heard many people giving their “expert” opinions on the subject that “large diameter grips won't work”, or stating that “you won't be able to get the club head to rotate and release properly through the impact area”. I often wonder how many of these golfers have actually spent 15,000 hours hitting with them as I have? Bobby Jones is one of my favorite authors, and he begins his classic golf instruction book Bobby Jones on Golf with a beginning chapter reminding us all that "The object of the game is to get the golf ball into the golf hole in the fewest number of strokes as you can muster".

Jumbo or Super-Oversized golf grips are simply an alternative type of golf grip which helps many golfers to get the “job” done (getting the golf ball into the cup) more effectively and with less frustration. Stating out-right that these golf grips don't work is both incorrect as well as irresponsible, since numerous golfers with average-sized hands can, and do use larger than conventional golf grips with great success.

If you are curious as to whether or not larger-than-standard golf grips might help you, I would recommend that you try them for yourself, and see if they can help you play better golf.

There is an almost infinite number of ways to grab a golf club and strike a golf ball. Whatever swing method or particular equipment helps you to get that task accomplished in the most effective way, is what you should utilize.

I welcome your comments.
